The Mental Health & Addictions team provides a wide range of Mental Health/Addiction services to the children, adolescent and adult population of the District of Algoma.
- The Inpatient Psychiatric Unit provides care to adult inpatients over the age of 18, who suffer from a serious mental illness.
- The Medication Clinic provides the administration of long-acting anti-psychotic medications to seriously mentally ill adult outpatients.
- Crisis Services is a counseling program assisting individuals to cope with psychosocial crisis situations with the focus on restoring pre-crisis functioning.
- Beginnings/Transition House is a 24 hour Level 1 supportive housing program for the seriously mentally ill.
- Mobile Crisis is a mobile response support service for the seriously mentally ill in the Algoma District. Hours of operation are from 0800 to 2400. A crisis telephone line is available 24 hours/day.
- The Senior’s Mental Health Services provides assessment, consultation, education and treatment for individuals experiencing age related mental illness.
- The East Algoma Counselling Services provides counselling services for the residents in East Algoma as well as aftercare and support to discharged patients.
- The Addictions Treatment Centre provides community treatment services helping to alleviate psychosocial problems associated with the use and abuse of alcohol and/or drugs in the adult population of Sault Ste. Marie and District. Referrals for gambling problems are also accepted, and family members are also seen. The service is primarily for adults.
- The Detoxification Centre provides a 15 bed, non-medical withdrawal management service providing care to those 16 years and older who are intoxicated, in need of stabilization, in withdrawal, or in a crisis related to alcohol/drugs.
- The Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic provides assessment, diagnosis, consultation and short term intensive treatment for adults with urgent mental health needs.
- The Sexual Assault Care Centre/Partner Assault Clinic provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to survivors of recent or past sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Medical assistance, counseling, advocacy, prevention and education is provided to all persons affected by sexual abuse or assault.
- Psychology Services provides psychological assessment, diagnosis, individual marital and group psychotherapy for adults referred by psychiatrists/delegates.
- Transitional Care (formerly the Day Treatment Program) provides individual and group therapy to adults with serious mental illness. Services include assessment, psycho-education, supportive counseling and job readiness training.
- The outpatient practices of the psychiatrists and psychiatric delegates are located within the hospital and have clerical support 5 days per week.
- The Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) provides comprehensive mental health services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. PACT delivers treatment, rehabilitation and support services in a collaborative, comprehensive and continuous manner which is flexible across both time and service.
- The Algoma Consumer Survivor Network is an consumer/survivor initiative intended to offer a non-judgmental, caring and empowering environment for sharing and building skills. It offers support, advocacy and education opportunities for members and the public at large.
- The Psychiatric Orphan Patient Clinic offers assessment and treatment of patients with no family physician or psychiatrist who have a mental health diagnosis who are referred from the Emergency Department. This may include medication monitoring and renewal and follow up until the patient has become stabilized.
- The Strategies for Treatment of Early Psychosis (S.T.E.P.) is a program developed to assist young people (16 to 25) with first episode psychosis. The goal is to provide prompt assessment and comprehensive, medical and psychosocial treatment.
- Spiritual Support Services provides spiritual and religious care, education and support in needs to patients and their families.
Teaching opportunities: Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
