Algoma District Cancer Program
Full- Time Medical Oncologist – Sault Ste. Marie
If you are looking for an opportunity to join an exceptional team and enjoy a quality lifestyle in a great community to live and raise a family – look no further!
The Algoma District Cancer Program at the Sault Area Hospital is currently seeking a medical oncologist with superior clinical and leadership abilities who is interested in an exciting opportunity at the hub of the great lakes, Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. Our cancer program offers a full range of services in medical oncology, palliative care and support services including nutrition, oncologic pharmacy, social work and clinical trials (both cooperative group and industry sponsored trials). We are excited to be planning to move to our new state of the art hospital and cancer centre (including radiation facilities) in early 2011.
Due to growth, we need an additional oncologist. You will join an established multidisciplinary program with 2 other medical oncologists and become a part of a vibrant, dedicated team including a highly skilled oncology nursing staff and an active clinical trials department. Our program is also budgeted for an advanced nurse practitioner and a GP associate in medical/radiation oncology. Our clinical research program participates in NCIC CTG, that OCOG and industry-sponsored trials. Phase 2 investigations are also possible.
Located at the hub of the great lakes, Sault Ste Marie is on the border of the United States and is only a one and a half hour flight from Toronto. We enjoy abundant outdoor activities year round such as golf, fishing, sailing, kayaking, skiing, and a walking/bike path along the river. Access to excellent post secondary educational facilities (both a university and community college) coupled with affordable housing, good public schools, excellent restaurants and no traffic nightmares offers a great lifestyle. Our close proximity to the United States puts us within easy driving access of additional educational, recreational and cultural activities.
Each of our clinical staff enjoys an affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) that provides the opportunity to obtain a faculty appointment commensurate with academic rank. Medical students, family medicine residents and specialty residents all rotate through the communtiy. As well, clinical clerks from NOSM spend eight months in Sault Ste. Marie affording additional preceptor opportunities.
Full-time positions are also eligible for a competitive incentive/relocation package as well as annual additional provincial funding through the Northern Allowance Program.
